Musings ... December 10, 2015 following Malay Mail Online's Query on my Mission Statement come 2016

I am going to make things better for Malaysians by working hard to raise awareness and push for legislation to ensure first, the rule of law -- primarily through transparency and accountability of our government -- and second the primary focus of our nation on education of our children to realize a skilled workforce.

Both of these, in turn, are the indisputable primary drivers to reignite our stalled economic progress and sustain it for the long-term.

As an opposition leader, I know we will of course be in the forefront to challenge the government on their shortcomings on these issues. But I also believe these issues are genuinely existential national issues that must transcend even our allegiance to political parties -- and therefore will work with all MPs to craft legislation to ensure a positive future for all Malaysians.

For example, even UMNO members some in public, but most in private, are frustrated to have no idea what is happening to precious government resources and how unconscionably large sums of money can appear and disappear in government linked bank accounts. Even UMNO members must worry that their children will not have meaningful jobs in Malaysia due to the atrophy of real investment in our productive infrastructure and industry.

I believe 2016 will be a year of introspection and an inflection point in our waning national trajectory. The controlling cabal within the ruling party are making our once exemplary nation a virtual laughing stock. Our former peers, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore, are now far targets to reach, our former followers, ie Vietnam and Indonesia, are now competitive peers, and even nations we look down on now are growing at rates so fast they will soon surpass us. For me, 2016 will not be a year of searching to assign blame, there is no mystery there, but it will be a year to shine a light on the core issues confronting our nation -- and finding friends and allies to do what is right for all Malaysia and for all Malaysians, current and future generations.
